Microsoft Partners in Learning Project

The Connected Learning Schools Project was a joint project between the NSW Department of Education and Training, Microsoft, and DK2 (a company that facilitate the collaboration between all parties). This project seeked to enhance student engagement and increase student learning through the use of an authentic learning task using a range of technologies.

At Barnier we undertook several projects as part of the Microsoft Project for a three year period from 2006 - 2008.

MARVIN project
Some students in Stage 3 undertook a MARVIN project whereby a presentation was developed using animated features. These students used their skills to instruct their peers and teachers in their class to develop similar presentations. Teachers are using MARVIN throughout their teaching now! To view a sample of a MARVIN presentation you can download the link below. Many thanks to Jacob from KM, Miss McGowan and Miss Dybac for their contributions.

Digital Learning Journals
Students throughout the school were involved in creating Digital Learning Journals to take home at the end of the year. These journals showcases student work from throughout the year and included such things as video files showing students reading, student reflections as well as in-class tasks such as presentations or written pieces. Classes have continued to create digital showcases this year.

Gaming
This was a continuation from the 2007 focus of the project. Students from all Stage 3 classes worked on a unit of work based around game design. They are used software applications such as Microsoft Word (to complete their game design briefs, evaluations and reflections) and Game Maker (to make their games). They were involved in learning experiences that involved game design, testing and evaluation.

Round Table Assessment
Some Stage 3 students were involved in a ‘Round Table Assessment’ task. Students presented an oral presentation that encompassed three aspects of their learning - Heart (what they are passionate about), Hand (something they are good at), and Mind (their knowledge of technology). This involves the creation of a presentation on a chosen topic using a variety of media, e.g. Moviemaker, Photostory, videos, photographs and presentation software such as PowerPoint and MARVIN.
